Modern Foreign Languages

We believe that learning a different language provides a valuable educational, social and cultural experience for pupils. Learning a different language enables our children to celebrate and welcome differences in our world. Pupils develop communication and literacy skills that lay the foundation for future language learning. They develop linguistic competence, extend their knowledge of how language works and explore differences and similarities between French and English. Learning another language raises awareness of our multi-lingual and multi-cultural world and introduces an international dimension to pupils’ learning, giving them an insight into their own culture and that of others. We aim to inspire a love of languages as part of their ongoing journey of learning.

We use a variety of techniques to encourage the children to have an active engagement in this subject, including games, role-play and songs. We emphasise listening, responding, and speaking skills, in addition to reading and writing skills.
